Why Sundog Pet Services?
Our Biggest goal at Sundog is to provide, reliable, safe and and trusting environment for you, and your companion.
Safety is important to us because we consider our clients not only dogs or cats that we walk or visit, but as part of our own family. Health and safe environments are important to you and they are to us as well. We provide a non-smoking environment for your companion no matter where we are.
Part of reliability, is an honest approach to our practice of business. This includes ensuring that not only do we follow and respect city by-laws and other government requirements and keeping our clients' parents informed of any situation that might affect them or their furry child's well being.
At Sundog, we do not use coercion, leash-pops, check(choke) chains or prong collars. If a dog is a puller, or a bit goofy we may suggest Halti, Gentle Leaders, Easywalk or Sensation/Sensible harnesses. The later are used in conjunction with positive training. Our goal is to work with a dog, not boss or bully them around into walking nicely.
We use Positive training methods - our primary motto in training is to "Reward what you like, and ignore, or redirect what you don't like". Which follows many positive gurus (suggested reading)

Training Hints
Aversive training often fails to modify a behaviour.
Most of the time, the dog is still doing the same
behaviour, and getting punished for it. Although it
stops the behaviour in that instance, rarely does it
extinguish an unwanted behaviour.
Training Hints
Rewarding behaviours you want will increase their
frequency. This includes things that you might not
think you're actually rewarding. If you know what
motivates your dog, try to use those motivations for
rewarding the things you want,
Training Tips
Head Halters, Gentle Leaders and Chest harnesses are used for gentle control while a dog is learning behaviours that might be difficult for it. Sometimes this is just learning to walk nicely on a leash or to prevent charging at passing objects or to help calm the dog enough so they can concentrate on training.. more hints.
