I am so excited to share the news that this wonderful red/white, short-coat male  puppy is joining the extended family.  He lives with Elska as a member of her family in beautiful B.C..  We are proud to co-own him with Alisha and his breeder Sharon Schaefer, to  help sponsor  his show career and we look forward to his future contribution to our breeding programs.

Ari is getting a wonderful start to life, breeder Sharon at Belglen Kennels is a super puppy raiser with over 20 years experience with Belgian Malinois and 3 previous Icelandic Sheepdog litters.   Her puppies receive Early Neurological Stimulation and are clicker trained from a young age.

Ari is going to  be "a lot of dog" once he grows into those ears and paws.  He has large strong dewclaws, a very good match for Soley's daughters.  

Family Tree

Ari's  sire is Reykjadal's Odinn, born in Iceland,  and this is Odinn's first CKC-eligible litter.  His dam is Fronar Ima Belglen, also an Iceland import.  This is only Ima's second litter and in her first litter, are 2 CKC Champions and 1 IABCA Champion.  All 3 of Ima's hip-tested offspring are OFA Good.  Odinn has a Penhipp rating of 0.44 on both sides, which is a good rating for the breed.   

The O Family

Ari is a great-grandson of Skessu Skolli, one of the  members of the very small O-family identified in Pieter Oliehook's genetic study.   Our litter from Soley and Max are grand-children of  Skessu Skolli, so in mating either of the girls to Ari we will be line-breeding and concentrating the genes of the O-family, which is crucial to protecting the genetic diversity of the breed.

Other Relatives

Ari is also a grand-son of Tyr fra Husatoftum, a beautiful typical male who has sired many litters in Iceland but I think that Ima is his only descendant in North America producing CKC-eligible offspring.
